Stewart, DK Sextet, Live in Olympia

Northwest Blues Legend and six-time Muddy Award winner for Best Keyboards, DK Stewart, and his veteran band featuring the Soul Survivor Horns, deliver masterfully on Line In Olympia. On this 11-cut disc, recorded in August 2011, DK and his searing, seamless ensemble serve up swinging, up-tempo jump blues by Ray Charles and T-Bone Walker; hard-grooving New Orleans funk by Earl King, Alan Toussaint and the Meters; and slashing Chicago blues by Memphis Slim and Otis Spann. DK Stewart, whose New Orleans, boogie-woogie piano style has been a driving force behind such Northwest blues giants as Robert Cray, Paul deLay and Curtis Salgado, for the past several years has been tearing up major festival stages with his Sextet, which features longtime Paul deLay guitarist Peter Dammann, and the Soul Survivor Horns of British sax legend Chris Mercer (John Mayall, Dr. John) and NW all-star trumpeter Joe McCarthy (Robert Cray).
