Krc, Freddie Steady, The Mockingbird

He's in the Texas Music Hall of Fame and this year he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Texas Music. He's steered his own groups The Explosives, Freddie Steady's Wild Country, the Shakin' Apostles and the Freddie Steady 5 over vastly different musical terrains. He's toured the globe and recorded with world-renowned artists such as Roger Waters, Carole King, Roky Erickson, Jerry Jeff Walker and Ronnie Lane just to name a few. He's released a couple dozen records in his various incarnations. We think it's high time that Freddie Steady Krc finally release his first true solo album…well, second actually, but that first one was only released in the former Czechoslovakia, but that's another fascinating story in the life of this Renaissance Texan. The Mockingbird finds Freddie making good use of his broad musical palette. This lover of rock, country, folk, psych, r&b, blues, jazz, zydeco, tex-mex and power pop has embraced most of these musical styles for this special collection. All the songs seem to dance, rub, scrape and play together side by side, track after track. He's at his lyrical best and the message in the title track sums up Freddie's musical life: "The redbird sings when he's happy, the bluebird sings when he's blue but the mockingbird sings all the time, it's all he knows to do." At long last, it's a strong personal statement from Freddie Steady Krc. Still rocking. It's all he knows to do.
